Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving to UMM! I hope everyone made it back safe and sound yesterday. We fought snowstorms and wind, but made it home for the break.

Thanks to Dave Swenson, Robert Thompson, Plant Services, ORL, and everyone else that was involved, we now have an office space. Things will start to be moved in right after Thanksgiving break. It doesn't look like there is enough time to print yet this semester, but we'll see what happens. Finals week is right around the corner.

With that, enjoy your break and see you in a few days!

Collegiate Network Editors Conference 2010

This past weekend I had the opportunity of going to the annual Collegiate Network Editors Conference in Texas. It was hosted at the Adolphus Hotel in downtown Dallas. Certainly a change of scenery from downtown Morris! The Collegiate Network supports college newspapers across the country with a focus on promoting open dialogue on campus. Each year they hold an Editors conference to offer resources for member newspapers and they hold breakout sessions on different newspaper functions, and it is a wonderful time to network with other papers. Overall it's a really valuable and helpful opportunity.

I had a great time there, and I hope to employ some of the things I have learned in the Morris North Star when we start printing again. We have been without an office so far this semester, but it sounds like we will be able to move into a new one pretty soon, and we are moving in the direction of getting an issue out.

In the meantime keep an eye on our blog!

Return from Break

The Counterweight has been on an extended hiatus due to factors that will be discussed in our forthcoming issue, and we have undergone a name change to reflect our return. Staff has decided that The Morris North Star was a fitting upgrade, and we will discuss that point in our forthcoming issue as well.

We have been unable to print so far this semester, but please realize that we are still here--and we hope to print before the semester is over!
